Tools

One thing first:

We are talking about tools for hobby users here. The focus here is on ensuring that the machines and devices are functional, durable and cost-efficient.

We and I are of course aware that there are brands that represent the non-plus-ultra in the professional sector and are worlds better. The question of the cost of these appliances is something everyone has to decide for themselves.

We are of the opinion that acceptable results can also be achieved with inexpensive and simple tools.

Always remember: an amateur built the ark, professionals built the Titanic.

I would like to say one more thing: The machines shown here are only recommendations from me and us. We have had various experiences with tools over the years and would like to show you here what we like to work with. Everyone has a different opinion, that goes without saying. Nevertheless, it is important for me to mention that we have no cooperation with any manufacturer. We are neither paid for advertising nor for mentioning the products in any way.

BOSCH GTS 635-216

The Bosch GTS 635-216 is actually one of my favorite appliances at the moment. In contrast to other machines in this class that I know, it is still compact.

A decent 1,600 watts at 5,500 rpm ensures a decent cut. So far, I have had the opportunity to compare it with two completely different types of circular table saw:

A cheap one from Einhell (they were on sale in my early days at the local DIY store for €90) and a gigantic 10XL machine, with integrated cutters built in 1928. no kidding! Connected to the power supply, anchored in the concrete floor, the power cable also cast in the concrete ... Amazing.

The latter is of course in a class of its own and can in no way be compared with the Bosch. But it is a wonderful device and a lot of fun.

Einhell TE-CD 18/2

Yes, we are still among the hobby users. And yet I have to say that this cordless screwdriver is in no way inferior to its competitors.

As already mentioned, it's always a question of what you want to do with it. When it comes to planned drill holes, I mark them and drill them (if the size of the component allows it) on the pillar drill. For all other drillings, however, this cordless screwdriver is highly recommended. It has plenty of power, the drill bits and bits can be changed quickly, it sits well in the hand and does what it should. Einhell has definitely made a name for itself in this area.

Of course, you won't be working with it for 8 hours at a time and you certainly won't get the idea of drilling large holes in metal. There are other machines for that and this cordless screwdriver is in no way designed for that. But it is absolutely sufficient for the simple hobby craftsman.

A clear recommendation from me!

Einhell TE-RO 1255 E

And once again it is a machine from the Landau Group. You could say it's a coincidence that two very important machines are from this manufacturer, but as already mentioned, the Einhell brand has certainly evolved over the years. In the early days, the company was ridiculed for its past in the model-making sector, but it does indeed build practical tools.

This router in particular feels amazingly good in the hand. I have held various models from other manufacturers and each has its own advantages and benefits. But I have to say that for beginners or even for someone who just wants to mill something every now and then, this tool definitely has its appeal.

As with everything, it's always a question of what you want to do with it. It has to be said that this router does what it was made for. It mills. And it does it quite well and at a very fair price.

What tools and accessories

should you have in every workshop?

The question of all questions.

Very important in my opinion: protective equipment. This should be bought with every machine and every tool, especially at the beginning. Gloves and ear protection won't do you any good without a machine, but operating a machine without ear protection isn't beneficial in the long term either.

So here is an overview of parts that should be available in every workshop to get a project off to a good start.

Safety goggles

Dust protection

Hearing protection
